About H.H. the Dalai Lama's Main Temple

Dharamsala is located at the foothills of Dhauladhar with a magnificent view of snowy peaks, lush beautiful hills, deodar and pine forests and tea gardens. The Dalai Lama temple complex, at a walking distance from the McLeod Ganj bus stand in upper Dharamsala is on Temple Road. Across the Dalai Lama Temple courtyard visitors can find Namgyal Monastery. The Namgyal monastery is the private monastery of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. No visitors are allowed to enter the temple premises. It is strictly open to Dalai Lama and his students. The temple complex is kept open from sunrise to sunset for the visitors to explore the peaceful ambiance of the surroundings. During the morning hours visitors can participate in the prayers as the monks chant and meditate. You can join local residents for a meditative walk around the temple/monastery complex. Along the way, you will see many prayer flags and 'mani' stones. There are two very beautiful lakes around Dharamsala i.e. Dal Lake and Kareri Lake close by. Known for its Tibetan settlements and the residence of Noble Laureate the 'Dalai Lama', Dharamshala is well connected with nearby places. Hence, one can reach the Dalai Lama temple complex easily.
