About Chennai Rail Museum

The Railway Museum is a prominent museum located at Perambur. Founded in 2002 on the premises of the Integral Coach Factory, the Railway Museum has an extensive collection of both indoor and outdoor exhibits. The indoor galleries showcase an assortment of photographs that will take you through the formative years of the Indian Railways. The miniature models of trains remain the popular most attraction among children. The outdoor gallery has many models of trains ranging from steam engines to diesel engines. Some of the models include the Fowler ploughing engine, double Decker coaches made to ferry the British officers, and the train on which Gandhiji travelled. All the outdoor models are accessible to visitors. This museum is a perfect place for those who would like a historic or educational tour on railways. The entry fee for adults is INR 5 and that for children is INR 3. The museum remains open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. The best time to visit the museum would be during exhibitions that are organized regularly here. One can easily reach the museum by auto, bus or taxi.
